'Cairo: My City, Our Revolution'

Egyptian novelist and writer Ahdaf Soueif narrates her history of Cairo and her journey through the first few months of the 2011 revolution, highlighting the intersections of the personal and the political in the context of these momentous events.

Ahdaf Soueif is the author of critically-acclaimed novels, 'In the Eye of the Sun' and 'The Map of Love'. She is the founder of the Palestinian Festival of Literature. She is also a regular commentator on Egyptian and Palestinians affairs.

She is part of a family of activists. Her nephew is Alaa Abdel-Fattah, who has been imprisoned a number of times. His mother, Ahdaf's sister, is Laila Soueif, a long-term activist, who is the widow of the late Ahmed Seif, lawyer and human rights defender. Ahdaf's son is writer and film-maker Omar Robert Hamilton who was the co-founder of Mosireen, a collective of film-makers who worked to document the 2011 revolution and whose work is archived in the 858 Archive (also featured on this website).
