Episode 1 of the satirical show, the Bassem Youssef Show. This episode was filmed at Youssef's home and distributed over the internet. At the time, he was a heart surgeon, who was helping to treat wounded protesters in Tahrir Square.
Frustrated with the way in which state media was reporting the protests, he began filming short videos that made fun of the regime's propaganda. The videos went viral and the show was picked up by a TV network. Youssef's show came to be one of the most watched TV shows in the Arab world. He was forced off air and forced to flee the country after the July 2013 military coup.
