Title

Cairo ballet dancers perform on street in protest against Muslim Brotherhood government

Subject

Street performance

Description

Members of the Cairo ballet perform to 'Zorba the Greek' on the street outside the Ministry of Culture in June 2013 as part of a month-long protest against what artists and cultural producers viewed as the 'Brotherhoodization' of the state, meaning the perceived take over of the state by the then ruling Muslim Brotherhood. A month after this, the Muslim Brotherhood president, Mohamed Morsi, was deposed by the army following mass protests.
